1880年代後半を舞台に、トーマス・エジソン（ベネディクト・カンバーバッチ）とジョージ・ウェスティング（マイケル・シャノン）が、二コラ・テスラ（ニコラス・ホルト）を巻き込んで電気供給を巡って競い合う姿を描く、映画『The Current War』。
US公開日が2017.12.22と発表されました。
Staking out another spot on the awards season calendar, TWC also announced today that it will release The Current War, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon, on Dec. 22.
The Current War stars Cumberbatch as inventor Thomas Edison and Shannon as George Westinghouse as the two battle over how to market electricity in the late 1880s. Directed by Alfonso Gomez‐Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and written by Michael Mitnick, the film also stars Katherine Waterston, Nicholas Hoult, Tom Holland, Matthew Macfayden and Tuppence Middleton. After its Dec. 22 limited opening, the film will receive what’s described as a moderate expansion Jan. 19.
クリスマス・ホリデーど真ん中での公開。
この時期にUS公開するということは、つまり…アカデミー賞戦にガッツリ参戦してオスカー狙うんだぜ、とワインスタイン・カンパニーが狼煙を上げたという意味で。
本当にアカデミー賞に参戦するなら、日本公開はアカデミー賞後の2018年3月下旬以降でしょうか。このメンツなので、日本公開がないなんてことはありえないだろうと、勝手に確信。
どんな神経質なトーマス・エジソンが出てくるのか、楽しみです。天才役やらせるとホントに違和感ないカンバーバッチですから。（←褒めてます）
